Mauche MCA Moses Koros has called for need for county government to ensure all farmers at grassroot are supported towards boosting agriculture and in return improve the economy.
Speaking via a phone interview, MCA Koros noted that grassroot farmers are key to the growth of economy.
“We need to support our farmers get farm inputs on time. This will help boost output and ensure good harvest that in turn will improve livelihoods,” he stated.
While lauding the hardworking residents of his Ward, majority of whom are farmers, MCA Koros called for the need for government to continue supporting on issues of subsidized fertilizer.
He pointed out that the season for short rains is also paramount as is a planting season.
The vocal MCA also used the moment to appeal to Government to ensure supply of subsidized DAP fertilizer to farmers doing potato farming.
According to him, the subsidized fertilizer that was issued by government favours more maize farmers, rather than potato farmers.
He was however quick to note that the matter calls for a research by field officers.
“From my own observation the fertilizer that was issued only favours maize farmers. There is need to ensure that even the potatoes farming is supported through supply of DAP fertilizer,” he stated.
On infrastructure in Mauche Ward, the MCA assured that majority of the roads will be graded, adding that already some are in the process.
While noting that during rainy season the roads are always affected, the MCA called on residents to be patient as he is looking into the issue.
MCA Koros revealed that he has also lobbied from County Government of Nakuru to have boreholes drilled in areas that had challenges of accessing water services.
According to him, the next move will be working to ensure supply of piped water to various households.
He called on well-wishers or even sponsors to step in and ensure piping of the water in the Ward that some parts that have had challenges.
“On water we are trying and I think we have already some operational boreholes that were drilled. I however call on well-wishers to step in and ensure that we have piping to homes done. The challenge has been budget constraints since the money we get as a Ward cannot cater for drilling and piping,” he stated.
The MCA reiterated the call to residents to maintain peace as they go on with their farming activities as well as other businesses that aim to boost the economy.
