There is need for Judiciary to expedite the hearing numerous appeal cases that have continued to pile through postponed hearings.
This is a according to Wakili Bernhard Kipkoech Ng’etich who argues that there should be mechanisms towards the same.
The vocal Advocate of the High Court was categorical that the continued delay in hearing of these cases is a threat to justice.
According to him, there is an urgent need to have targeted hearings and strategic empowerment of the Judiciary so that all cases are heard and concluded within a year.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. There is an urgent need to have targeted hearings and strategic empowerment of the judiciary so that all cases are heard and concluded within 1 year,” he stated.
He added that any decision after one year amounts to injustice while after 5 years is gross injustice.
This even as he noted that the Court of Appeal in Nakuru that serves many Counties is now listing Appeals mounted in 2019/2020, that is 5 years behind.
Ng’etich noted that Nairobi is no better.
“Holding all factors constant, 2025 Appeals might be heard in 2030. Travesty of justice indeed,” he stated.
