November 1, 2025 PRISTONE 2 min read

Nakuru County continues to record high cases on succession matters.

Presiding Judge Hedwig Ong’udi has raised alarm over the same.

She reveals that in Nakuru High the number of succession matters is very high and posing a challenge in that even a times the decision of the courts is made but the family members still fight.

Speaking on Friday October 31, 2025 during the Alternative Justice Systems Open Day at Nakuru Law Courts, Lady Justice Ong’udi decried that the cases are on the rise.

She attributes the same to lack of dialogue among families to come to understanding.

The Judge stated that it is worrying that some siblings in monogamous family are having conflicts over issues that can be addressed through Alternative Justice Systems.

According to her, time is now that the religious leaders should also help the courts by initiating talks with families to avert numerous cases and misunderstanding.

“The deceased men and women sacrificed so much to have their children have something, but then the children cannot agree and this pains me so much. As religious leaders, we need to encourage families to have their issues handled through AJS, and even iron out their issues,” she stated.

The Judge stated that when such small matters are addressed through AJS then it ease the burden on the courts.

She at the same time assured that the courts will work closely with the AJS practitioners through referrals to ensure justice for all.

“Prepare for more cases as from next year and continue the good you started,” she said.
