To the esteemed Government Officials, Citizens, and Civil Society Organisations,
We are deeply concerned about the recent developments regarding the disappearance of Brian Odhiambo, who is alleged to be in the custody of KWS game rangers.
The inability to produce Mr. Odhiambo, either dead or alive, has caused significant distress and uncertainty, which has unfortunately sparked violent protests within the community.
Direct communication with the DCIO, has confirmed that there are suspects currently in custody, accused of inciting violence.
It has been reported that during the unrest, a police officer is nursing an injury and several vehicles have been damaged.
While we condemn all forms of violence, it is essential that we address the root causes of this unrest, particularly the growing concern over Mr. Odhiambo’s disappearance.
We acknowledge the authorities’ efforts in addressing the situation and ensuring that due process is followed.
It is important that justice prevails, and that all individuals involved are held accountable in accordance with the rule of law.
The suspects will be arraigned in court tomorrow, and we trust that the legal process will be carried out transparently and fairly.
“As civil society organisations, we urge all stakeholders to come together for an urgent meeting to address the situation, find solutions, and ensure peace is restored. We stand firm in our commitment to a peaceful resolution, one that upholds human rights, respects the rule of law, and prioritizes dialogue over violence,”.
We call upon all parties—government, law enforcement, civil society, and citizens—to engage in constructive dialogue, respect due process, and work collectively to resolve this issue in a manner that brings justice and peace to all involved.
Together, we can address this situation with the gravity it deserves and ensure a peaceful and lawful resolution that serves the best interests of all citizens.
