Dandelion Africa NGO that runs programs in various Counties among them Nakuru and Baringo, on Monday June 16, 2025 partnered with the County Government of Nakuru in Rongai Sub county in hosting event to mark the Day of the African Child.
Under the theme “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights: Progress Since 2010”, stakeholders weighed in on the progress made in integrating children’s rights into planning and budgeting.
The event saw learners from various schools, county officials, National Government officials, Dandelion Africa NGO and other stakeholders join in a procession to sensitize public on the rights of children and the need to safeguard them.
The participants later congregated at the Barnett Children’s Home where various speakers had time to address, with calls for safeguarding children’s rights taking centre stage.
Representatives from Dandelion Africa NGO noted that it had made strides at grassroot level in advocating for children rights.
Through several interventions in Rongai and Mogotio Constituencies among others, Dandelion prides in having contributed to the high numbers of children transitioning to secondary schools.
The NGO noted that African child can do better if supported through Empowerment.
The Organization that has been working with communities at grassroot level, points out that children have continued to face a lot of challenges in rural areas.
It should be noted that Dandelion Africa has been engaging children through Girls for Leaders, Boys for Change Program that aims to empower the children and ensure their rights are safeguarded.
According to Dandelion Africa Executive Director Wendo Aszed, when it comes to protection of Children Rights, there is need for concerted effort.
“We all have a role to ensure children rights are protected. When the budget process is taking place, there is need for allocation towards children rights protection so that we can have a child friendly society where they can enjoy their rights,”she says.
