Nakuru-based Centre for Transformational Leadership (CTL) has launched a civic engagement App dubbed Gundua Info.
Gundua Info App that is now live on the Play Store, will help Nakuru residents track county budgets, monitor projects as well as demand answers —all from their phones.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch, CTL Executive Director Buncy Kubutha lauded Uraia and Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia as well as Nakuru Civil Society Organization Network for their invaluable support in bringing this app to life.
She urged Nakuru residents to embrace the App that is one of it’s kind ever in Nakuru and Kenya as a whole.
“This is a milestone as far as matter civic engagement concerned. With this App, Nakuru residents will be able to track several governance issues among them budget,” she stated.
Professor Gitile Naituli who is the chair CTL Board lauded the launch of the App terming it a great tool of tracking and ensuring transparency and accountability.
According to Naituli, the budgets are very specific both at county and national and the App will also help residents track and ensure accountability.
“The only challenge we have had in Kenya is integrity issues. But with the App, the residents and even young people’s innovation will help shape governance,” he stated.
He challenged leaders to ensure that we have transformational leaders who think about the next generation by addressing challenges rather than transcational leaders who only think of themselves.
According to Prof Naituli, there has been a challenge of budgetary corruption where money is budgeted but no outcome, but with this App things will be inorder.
“The pressure will be mounted on the oversight by Assemblies to ensure executive acts on queries raised by the Auditor General. The information on budgets and data is in public domain and can be easily tracked,” he said.
The event was also graced by Dr. Charles Koech, Chief Officer for Public Service Management and Devolution, Joseph Omondi(Executive Director MIDRIFT HURINET), Masese Kemunche(Executive Director CEDGG), Deputy Speaker Anthony Kamau and MCAs as well as members of the civil society.
Dr. Koech reiterated the County’s support for such innovative tools that advance open governance.
He highlighted the efforts of Governor Susan Kihika, under whose leadership the Efficiency and Monitoring Unit (EMU) was established to track county projects in real time.
He also acknowledged the ongoing legislative work on the Nakuru County Access to Information Bill, 2025, which seeks to legally guarantee citizens the right to public information.
