Co-operatives Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui on Thursday May 30, 2027 led a tree planting exercise at Timboroa Forest,Kapngetuny Location in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu county.
During the exercise, 10,000 tree seedlings were planted.
Speaking during the exercise, CS Chelugui stated that this is in line with President William Ruto’s directive on accelerated national tree planting to combat climate change and global warming.
The Kenya Kwanza administration has set a national target of 15 billion trees by 2032 in order to push the national tree cover to globally acceptable levels.
“In line with the President’s directive, I am leading tree planting efforts in Uasin Gishu and Murang’a Counties,” he said.
He added that they have agreed with the people of Uasin Gishu towards achieving target of 15 million trees in one year.
The CS expressed confident towards achieving target in the shortest time possible.
