The county government of Nakuru,led by Eng.Michael Kamau CECM(Roads) holds the closing of the UN global safety week at Nyayo garden aim to raise awareness on road safety and protect vulnerable road users,marks a significant step for H.E Governor Susan Kihika towards improving safer transport system for all.
During the event, Eng.Michael Kamau CECM(Roads and infrastructure) noted that as county initiatives they have been able to establish road safety clubs schools also they have Traffic marshals who help children to cross the roads.
“As Nakuru Transport and Safety committee we have conducted first aid response training to a section of bodaboda operators to enhance road safety and reduce accident.The theme this year made by United Nation”Streets for life”which address the need to protect vulnerable road users calls for action to keep safe on our roads”.
Dr.Andrew Kiplagat, Director of Road Safety(NTSA) emphasized alarming statistics of road traffic incidents,addressing the urgency for working together.He called upon motorists to take caution towards pedestrian as according to statistics 72 percent are most affected on road accidents.
He praised the Nakuru County, partner organizations, road agencies, first responders, and traffic operators for their role in ensuring effective maintenance and coordination.He further stated that road safety is a shared responsibility and so everyone to work on behaviour and adhere strictly to traffic rules to reduce fatalities in our county.
