
Twenty gold miners were on Monday trapped after a gold mine shaft collapsed at Museno, Khayega in Shinyalu Constituency of Kakamega County.

By the time of publishing this article, Shinyalu Sub county Police Commander Daniel Makumbu confirmed that eight had been rescued, while twelve remain trapped.
The SPC added that Rescue operations were underway, and that no fatalities had been reported.
Area member of Parliament Fred Ikana had earlier made an urgent appeal for help.
“I’m appealing to the emergency teams on the ground to rash to Imachilifu village, Museno area in Isukha South, Kakamega to rescue over 12 gold miners trapped in a goldmine,” he stated.
The Lawmaker called for calmness among constituents and prayers for the affected artisans as rescue operations intensify to save lives.
