Why MCAs are not yet sworn into office

The delay by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to gazette nominated members of the county Assembly has made it impossible for swearing in of the members.

The law has it that swearing in shall take place once there is full composition of the house.

The first st sitting shall be held after IEBC fully /properly constitutes the County Assemblies i.e gazettes the list of both elected and nominated MCAs.

So far, the nominated MCAs are yet to be gazetted.

Once the House is fully constituted, it paves way for the governor to gazette the date and place of the first sitting.

The governor has 30 days from the date of the full constitution of the assembly to gazette it’s first sitting.

During the first sitting, there will be the swearing-in ceremony of the MCAs, the election of the Speaker and his/her Deputy.

This is as per Ammendments in the County Governments Act.
