No demonstrations in Nairobi CBD, IG Kanja warns

Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has banned demonstrations within Nairobi CBD until further notice.

Kanja says this follows intelligence that organized criminal groups were planning to take advantage of the Generation Z-led peaceful demonstrations to cause chaos, destruction and loot properties.

While noting that the constitution allows for peaceful demonstrations, picketing and peacefully submitting petitions, the Police have a duty too to protect property.

Kanja at the same time called on members of the public to remain vigilant.

He however assured the nation that the National Police Service remains committed to ensuring safety of all Kenyans.

It should be noted that Generation Z-led peaceful demonstrations against the government have been going on across the Country on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
