When the history of youth and politics in Nakuru is written, one youthful lady by the name Janet Moraa Oyunge will not miss out.
Currently in her late 20s, Janet Mkenya as she is commonly known among Nakurians, has become the voice of youth in Nakuru.
She has always defended youth against various injustices.
This, she does by calling out the perpetrators through her comments in various social platforms among them the many Whatsapp groups that she is a member.
The move has seen her earn a name among Nakuru residents.
Not only that, Janet Mkenya was recently appointed the Vice Chair of the newly formed Democracy for Citizens Party(DCP) Nakuru Branch making it a milestone for young people in Nakuru who subscribe to DCP.
It is a position that has not gone well with some individuals who are fighting her within the Party.
However, the iron youthful lady says she was appointed Vice Chair DCP Nakuru due to her effort and experience in fighting for the party.
“The party believed in me and thus i can affirm that I’m the Vice Chair Nakuru Branch. Those trying to fight me within the party,” she stated.
She has also worked in the office of the Nakuru Woman Rep Liza Chelule before she was sacked owing to her allegence to former DP and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua.
An alumni of Kimkasa Primary School and Molo Secondary in Molo Sub County, Janet believes in fighting for a better society.
She attributes her leadership qualities to her great grandfather who served as a prominent chief during the colonial era.
This is a youthful lady who speaks her mind and does not entertain any form of intimidation.
“I believe women and young people have a space in politics and they need to be on the decision making table. It is in doing so that their challenges can be addressed,” she says.
She has vowed to continue championing for the youth affairs within DCP Party and ensure their voice is heard.
At the same time, she told off those trying to fight her within the party for their own interests.
According to her, leadership is passion to serve the interests of the people.
