Human Rights Defender Moses Gitonga calls out President Ruto over Statehouse church

July 6, 2025 PRISTONE 1 min read

Nakuru based Human Rights Defender Moses Gitonga has weighed in on the controversial construction of multibilion church at Statehouse.

Gitonga who has been advocating for good governance, argues that it is wrong to build any structure on public land without authorization from relevant authorities.

According to Gitonga, the move by President Ruto has very serious implications having in mind that Statehouse is public utility land No. One.

“I appreciate the magnanimity of president Ruto to build a 1.2b worth of a church at Statehouse Nairobi. This has very serious legal implications. State House is public utility land No. one. You cannot privately put up a structure of any shape or size on a government land, without authorization from the relevant authorities after due process is followed,” he stated.

Gitonga has called on Parliament through committee on Land and Environment in both houses, to address this matter in view of the Constitutional legal implication thereof.
