Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika seems to have understood well the importance unity among leaders.
Of late, Governor Kihika has embraced unity of leaders vowing to work with every leader for the prosperity of Nakuru residents unlike her predecessors Kinuthia Mbugua and Lee Kinyanjui.
Just last weekend, the Governor attended a function in Rongai Constituency that left many in shock owing to the past relationship between her and Rongai Lawmaker Paul Chebor.
The duo, though elected on UDA ticket in 2022 seemed to read from different political script in the past.
However, the meeting that was attended by several Nakuru MPs saw them reconcile and vow to work together for the sake of electorates.
And just two days after the Rongai event, Governor Kihika and Bahati MP Irene Njoki convened a meeting that was attended by eight Nakuru MPs.
Later, the leaders met opinion leaders from Bahati Constituency led by MP Irene Njoki.
According to Kihika, the meeting aimed to assess the progress of implementation of development projects and the way forward to elevate social and economic status of the residents of Bahati.
In attendance were MPs Samwel Arama (NTW), David Gikaria (NTE), Alfred Mutai (KN), Joseph Tonui (KS), Paul Chebor (Rongai), Charity Kathambi (Njoro) and Lisa Chelule (County MP) in a show of political unity–an absolute value necessary for expedited development in Nakuru County.
During the meeting, Governor Kihika revealed that in Bahati, her administration has disbursed Kshs29.46 million in bursaries to 5,839 students which is part of Kshs440 million was allocated for bursaries this year.
She added that the Uji Program is ongoing drawing more children to ECDE centres increasing access to clean drinking water by drilling, equipping, solarizing and piping water projects. Distilling of Mugumoini and Burundi Dams in this year’s budget.
The Governor was categorical that the Bahati Level 4 Hospital (Bahati Hospital’s Mother & Baby Wing) is at 65 percent completion in partnership with Kingdom Seekers Fellowship.
The construction of maternity wings at various health centres is ongoing with upgrades of more health facilities such as Ruguru and Dundori is at various stages.
“We are making efforts to ensure owners of plots at Dundori and Bahati Trading Centres are given title deeds,” she stated.
In addition, her administration has completed tarmacking of roads in Bahati Trading Centre as continued plans to grade and murram roads in all wards.
“I am keen to improve infrastructure in Bahati. Construction of ultra modern markets at Kabatini and Dundori is nearing completion and we are looking for land to construct a market at Heshima Market in Kiamaina Ward as we upgrade market sheds in Bahati,” she said.
To boost agriculture, Kihika revealed that her administration facilitated the last mile distribution of 1,200 bags of subsidized fertilizer, distributed tons of maize and sunflower seeds, and avocado seedlings adding that plans are on to improve coffee farming.
The Governor revealed that Affordable Housing program is at advanced stages in Bahati with 220 houses almost complete.
“With 2,000 houses earmarked for Phase 2, more artisans will be employed. I reiterated support for NG-CDF as a critical fund to grassroots development. We support H E President Ruto’s development agenda, including the commissioning of Rironi-Mau Summit Road which is very important to us in Nakuru,” she said.
During the meeting, Governor Kihika took on board views of opinion leaders and committed to accelerate project implementation and service delivery not only in Bahati Sub County but Nakuru County at large in our journey of economic transformation.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Governor H E David Kones, MCAs from Bahati and Nakuru County Government officials.
