The Ogiek Community has called on government to stop treating them as others but rather ensure implementation of the Landmark Court ruling that recognized them as indigenous peoples who have rights to their ancestral land in Mau Forest Complex.
Speaking in Narok after holding peaceful procession to County Commissioner’s office, the more than 700 community members in Narok County faulted the county Commissioner for ignoring them.
They stated that they have nowhere to go with the lapse of 9 months without a solution.
According to Executive Director Ogiek Peoples’ Development Program-OPDP Daniel Kobei, the over 700 peoples have nowhere to go, no school for their children rendering them hopeless.
“Narok County Commissioner has ignored us, the 700 Ogiek have no where to go ,9 months no solution no school no life but desperation. Total suffering,” he said .
According to Kobei, the Government has ignored them, a situation that has seen more than 40 children stop going to school following the demolition of their residence.
They are now calling on President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Government to expedite process of respecting the Landmark Court ruling that recognized Ogiek Peoples’ rights.
