Former Secretary General of the Kenya Civil Servants Union Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity has urged Parliament, particularly the youthful MPs to save the Country from what he termed interference of Independent Institutions by Executive.
His sentiments come even as motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is being fronted by a section of Lawmakers.
According to Dr.Kinity, there seems to be a tendency where Legislators are being pressured to rubber-stamp decisions he termed as detrimental to Kenyans.
“I urge Parliament, particularly the youthful members of Parliament, not to succumb to pressure from the government to rubber-stamp decisions that are detrimental to Kenyans. Our youthful MPs should be champions of the people, not tools of bad governance,” he stated.
In a statement to Newsrooms, Dr. Kinity has called on the MPs to defend the interests of ordinary citizens and avert harmful policies that might affect Kenyans.
On the plight of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the former Unionist condemned the recent arrest of a close ally of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to Dr. Kinity, President William might have had a hand in the arrests, an issue that he said has occasioned the political unrests being witnessed and that the situation might even worsened.
“The Kenya Kwanza Administration seems to be Ruto to be misrepresenting facts regarding the ongoing political unrest in Kenya and this will not goel well for this country,” he stated.
He de-linked GenZ protests and the office of the Deputy President.
According to Dr. Kinity, the June 2024 GenZ protests, were not orchestrated by the Deputy President as claimed by pro-Ruto supporters but opposition leader Raila Odinga had a hand in the same as he stood out opposing the controversial Finance Bill, rejecting even crucial Government policies.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kinity has condemned the government over arrest of individuals linked to the protests stating that the move contradicts the Constitution of Kenya in regards to peaceful protests.
The Former Unionist is calling on the Kenya Police and Defense Forces to join hands in protecting the rights of Kenyans.
“Many young Kenyans were killed while standing up for good leadership by protesting the government’s oppressive policies. The security forces should be protecting them, not suppressing their constitutional rights,” he stated.
On the proposed taxation of farmers, Dr.Kinity warned that such a move could devastate the agricultural sector.
He added that with such taxation, it is a clear indication of the increasing burden the government is placing on ordinary Kenyans.
Dr. Kinity who is a member of the Presidential Advisory Board of the Republican National Committee in the United States, said he will not stop pointing out weaknesses in governance back in Kenya.
He challenged Kenyans to continue advocating for better governance and that their Rights are safeguarded for a better future.
