
The Kenya Forestry College-Londiani on September 13, 2024 held the 47th graduation ceremony.
An event that was officiated by
Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Aden Duale who was hosted by the Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Alex Lemarkoko and the college Principal Dr. Elizabeth Wambugu.
This year saw the highest number of graduands with 197 students graduating with various diplomas and certificates in Forestry and Environmental Management.
The College which is an affiliate of KFS was established in 1956 and is the only college offering technical training in forestry at diploma and certificate level.
Speaking at the ceremony, the CS congratulated the graduands and informed them that opportunities were plenty in the conservation sector because of the need to reverse the detrimental effects of climate change.
He assured them that the ministry will always prioritise them whenever opportunities arise for technical officers who will assist in environmental conservation.
The CS took the opportunity to inform the public that KFS will strictly adhere to procurement procedures when disposing off plantation materials.
Speaking at the same event, the PS for Forestry Mr. Mugambi Gitonga congratulated the students for a job well done and encouraged them to practice their profession with confidence.
On his part the Chairman of the KFS Board Mr. Titus Korir said that his Board will continue to give policy guidance to that will develop the college so that it can play it’s role in producing professionals for the forestry sector.
The CCF said that the task of growing 15 billion trees was huge yet the number of technical officers to guide the process was still low and therefore the need to train more officers. He congratulated the students and assured them that the profession was noble and critical for the future given the climate challenges affecting the planet.
On her part the Principal thanked the CS for gracing the occasion and also the Board for supporting the institution through the initiation of a number of projects that will see the college improve its capacity to train more students.
