Why Nakuru residents are worried over new matatu stages

A section of Nakuru residents have appealed to the County Government to allow matatus operate within former Nakuru CBD stages as from 7pm to 9pm.

Led by Nakuru County Youth and governance chairman Daniel Kimani, they argue that the new matatu stages that were created by the County Government of Nakuru during this period of COVID-19 pandemic are pathetic with no security during the late hours.

The new matatu stages that  concerns have been raised over security issues include Kwa Jack stage, Ziwani stage, and Afraha stadium stage for the town services.

Kimani says the lack of security at the new stages is posing a lot of danger to residents especially women as they can be robbed off while trying to trace vehicles for their destinations.

It is for this reason that the Youth leader now wants governor Kinyanjui to rectify and ensure security in the new stages.

Meanwhile he has called on the county government to allow matatus to operate from the former CBD stages as from 7pm to 9pm for security purposes.

“We have been in those new stages and the security is not in place. We appeal to Governor that it’s now time to allow the Matatus to operate in the former CBD stages at night as from 7pm to 9pm” he said.

Kimani’s sentiments come after several residents raised concerns too over the poor state of the new matatu stages.

The locals admit that the new stages especially the one opposite the County Mortuary commonly Known as Kwa Jack  lacks security measures.

The rains are also causing havoc with matatus having to struggle to and from the stages.

Led by Joseph Mwangi and Samuel Gitonga, they say that since the curfew hours were extended to 9pm-4am, both the Kwa Jack and Ziwani stages need high mast secuirity lights commonly known as mulika mwizi urgently as security is deteriorating thus causing some residents to keep off which is not good business for matatus.
