Daniel Toroitich arap Moi – The “Professor of Politics” from Nakuru
From the quiet hills of Baringo to the corridors of State House, Daniel Toroitich arap Moi’s journey was deeply intertwined with Nakuru’s political and social fabric. Rising from a humble teaching career, Moi became a powerful voice for smaller communities before serving as Kenya’s second president for 24 years. Known as the “Professor of Politics”, he left a lasting mark on Nakuru — from championing peace under his Nyayo Philosophy to launching the famous school milk programme that touched thousands of local children. While his legacy remains a subject of debate, Moi’s influence on Nakuru’s leaders, institutions, and political culture continues to shape the county long after his passing in 2020.
