Stakeholders root for Nakuru County Agroecology Policy

Stakeholders in the Agroecology sector are rooting for the development of Nakuru County Agroecology Policy.

The policy will be key in addressing some of the challenges in the sector through adoption and promotion of best Agroecology practices.

This even as Nakuru County is committed to addressing issues that have led to the decline in productivity and
safety of agricultural produce including unsustainable land use and management practices like deforestation, monoculture, and the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides.

This has not only degraded land but also compromised the quality and safety of the food produced.

This was highlighted during the stakeholders meeting working in the agroecology sector discussing issues of promotion of agroecology in the county which includes the development of the Nakuru County Agroecology Policy.

“The development and implementation of an agroecology policy in Nakuru County will facilitate the adoption of various agroecological practices,” he stated.

The CECM added that this will lead to sustainable agricultural production, ensuring food and nutrition security, providing stable incomes for farmers, and contributing to the overall economic well-being of the county.
