Over 200 widows and widowers in Kilelwet village in Barut, Nakuru West had a reason to smile on Tuesday December 24, 2024 as well wishers stepped in with Christmas food donation.
The distribution of the donation took place at Soar Kenya Academy grounds under the coordination of philanthropist Rotarian Mr. James Yegon.
According to Yegon, the exercise was made possible through the partnership of well wishers within and without Kenya.
The donations were received from
Alex and Kitty, Gerry Tipple, Mitch James, Marci Nichole, Andre Rodiger, Marion, David Copp, Hennie, Karla Leach Cotta, Phill klamm, John Morgan, Judy Norris, John morgan and Friends of the Rotary club of Davis sunrise.
Speaking during the distribution of the food, Yegon said through friends this has been a norm every December to celebrate Christmas with the vulnerable in society.
He revealed that the contribution of donors and friends to a tune of Kshs 220,000 enabled the exercise.
Yegon also used the moment to rally Kenyans to embrace acts of philanthropy and charity works in reaching out to the needy in society especially during the festive season.
He urged Government to have data for all genuine widows and widowers and have a program for their economic support.
“We will continue to reach out to widows and widowers in society so that through our donors they can get assistance. But we also appeal to Government to ensure they have full data so that this lot can get help,” stated Yegon.
The donation food basket included 2Kgs rice, Soap, Wheat flour, cooking oil, 1Kg Sugar, Green grams, and tea leaves.
It should be noted that the criteria for selection of the beneficiaries was through the local administration among them the Chiefs and village elders.
“We are really grateful to our donors that these widows and widowers will enjoy Christmas,” stated Yegon.
The widows and widowers who could not hide their joy lauded Yegon and the donors for the gesture.
They urged Government to consider them and ensure their welfare is also taken care of.
