The National Council for People with Disabilities (NCPWD) marked its 20th anniversary at the plenary hall in Nakuru County during the National Disability Inclusion Conference.
The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the national and county governments, to reflect on milestones and address challenges in advancing disability inclusion.
Dr. Joy Mugambi, County Director of Health Administration and Planning, and a family physician, emphasized the Department of Health’s critical role in conducting disability assessments and ensuring access to inclusive healthcare services.
She highlighted the importance of collaboration in breaking barriers for persons with disabilities.
Other stakeholders also joined the forum including KMTC representing the the role of healthcare professionals, the Refugee Commission exploring the intersection of disability and displacement and the County Civil Registrar, stressing the need for accessible legal identity services.
Sponsors like Future Empowerment Vocational Center, Beyond Barriers, and the Knot Initiative supported the event.
Discussions reviewed the use of funds over the years and explored innovative solutions to systemic challenges.
The celebration reinforced the need for partnerships and sustained efforts to create an inclusive society, with stakeholders pledging continued dedication to equality and empowerment for all.
