The county was honoured with the Improved and Compliant Award, Diversity Award, and Compliance Award for its efforts in promoting a balanced and inclusive workforce.
Nakuru was celebrated for having more than 33 Kenyan tribes represented in its workforce, making it one of the most diverse counties in the country. It is also among only five counties that have not employed more than 70% of staff from the dominant tribe, a notable achievement in promoting ethnic inclusivity. Additionally, the county was commended for ensuring that individuals from non-dominant ethnic communities fill at least 30% of vacant posts at entry-level positions.
The awards were presented during a session at the Senate, where Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika was invited to discuss the county’s efforts to maintain a balanced workforce regarding ethnicity, gender, and age.
Governor Kihika’s administration was also lauded for its youth representation, with 23% of the workforce being young people, and for gender inclusivity, with women making up 58.7% of the workforce.
These achievements highlight Nakuru County’s dedication to fostering an equitable and inclusive work environment for all its residents.
