Nakuru County, NTSA launch Road Safety Campaign ahead of festivities

As one way of promoting safe road practices and reduce accidents on the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, the County government of Nakuru in partnership with National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) has launched a road safety campaign in Naivasha.

The campaign involves various stakeholders and aims to educate drivers and passengers about vital safety measures.

During the launch on Friday December 20, 2024, drivers were advised to avoid overspeeding, reckless overtaking, and overloading, while passengers were reminded to always fasten their seatbelts for safety.

This initiative comes at a critical time, as the festive season sees a significant increase in upcountry travel, leading to heightened traffic congestion on the highway.

Authorities hope that by addressing these safety issues, there will be reduction in road accidents during the holidays.

As part of the campaign, free reflector jackets and educational materials were distributed to travelers to raise awareness about road safety.

The Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, a vital route for holiday travelers heading to upcountry destinations, remains a focal point for such interventions.

Road users were urged to stay vigilant and report any cases of reckless driving to the relevant authorities to enhance safety on the roads.

Present at the event were officials from the Nakuru County Department of Infrastructure, led by CECM Eng. Michael Kamau, NTSA representatives, and stakeholders from Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), Kenya Red Cross, St. John Ambulance Naivasha, Kentegra, Pettanns, Red cross and Kericho Driving School.
