Nakuru County Government has continued to take steps towards sustainable water management. On Thursday, the county delivered 10 tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres, to ECDE centres within Mosop Ward, Rongai sub-county. The tanks will facilitate the storage of harvested rainwater, ensuring its availability for safe and future use, which is especially crucial given the ongoing rains.

While speaking during the exercise, area MCA, Hon. Alex Lang’at appreciated H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s efforts and timely delivery, noting that the tanks will greatly aid in water storage in an area where water is a scarce resource during dry seasons.

Governor Susan Kihika has continuously emphasized the importance of rainwater harvesting for the community.

“Rainwater harvesting is a sustainable solution to our water challenges. I encourage all Nakuru residents to embrace this practice to ensure we have a reliable water supply year-round. Together, we can make a significant difference in securing our water future,” the Governor has always emphasized.

Additionally, in the last financial year, Governor Kihika introduced a feeding program in ECDEs (Lishe na Mama), where each child receives a cup of fortified uji daily. This initiative has significantly improved the nutrition and overall well-being of the children, further demonstrating the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of the county’s youngest residents. It has also led to a surge in enrollment in public ECDEs.

The delivery of these PVC water tanks underscores Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to providing safe, clean, and potable water to residents in Nakuru County. This initiative addresses immediate water storage needs and promotes long-term sustainability and resilience against water scarcity.

Rainwater harvesting has been successfully implemented in countries like Australia, Brazil, and India, showcasing its potential to address water scarcity. These nations have demonstrated how effectively harvested rainwater can supplement water supply, especially during dry seasons.
