A Nakuru Bishop has linked the ongoing rise in femicide cases in the country to the harsh economic times that families are currently facing.
Bishop Anthony Mambo of the Anglican Church of Kenya Nakuru Diocese argues that the majority of families are going through harsh economic times which has a negative replica to the society.
He revealed that high cost of living has seen a lot of pressure on families leading to cases of depression that finally end in suicide cases and other forms of Gender Based Violence more so on Women and Girls.
The clergy was however quick to call on anyone going through depression to seek guidance and counseling.
“Many Kenyans are going through hard times and that is the reason we are witnessing cases of suicide. But we are saying that let’s seek counseling services. But again the government should act and help Kenyans come out of the harsh situation,” he stated.
Speaking at Rohi Girls High School in Lanet, Nakuru County during the closure of a one-week camp for over 1000 ACK youths, Bishop Mambo reiterated the Church’s call to President William Ruto’s administration to address the current harsh economic situation.
According to him, Kenyans are paying a lot of taxes which should be reflected in matters of service delivery to the people through development.
He added that the Anglican Church in Kenya as pronounced by the Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit is in support of the Catholic Bishops’ call that the Government should stop mare rhetoric, and act to save Kenyans.
“As a Church we have made our stand clear through our Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit that the government should fulfill the promises it made to Kenyans. It is not time to talk but to act and we are in support of Catholic Bishops on the same,” he stated.
Bishop Mambo called on Kenyans not to despair in seeking justice and putting the government of the day on toss.
He added that despite the situation where it seems the political opposition is now part of government, the Church will continue to play the checks and balances and ensure better governance systems.
