Nakuru-based Mediamax reporter Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki who was shot at by police during Generation Z-led peaceful demonstrations, now says her life is in danger in what she says she has been receiving some intimidating calls from unknown people.
Addressing Journalists at Nakuru Central Police Station where she reported the matter, Wanjeri who officials of Nakuru Journalists’ Association accompanied revealed that the individuals who have been calling her claimed to have information on the culprits who shot her.
She however wondered why the callers were against her sharing the phone number.
“I feel my life is in danger. Anytime I come to Nakuru for a check-up, I receive intimidating and threatening calls,” she said.
Chairperson Nakuru Journalists’ Association Mr Joseph Openda said such intimidations are uncalled for.
He called on investigating agencies to work closely with the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to ensure that justice is served.
“Those intimidating Wanjeri should keep off. We demand justice. Already we are in communication with IPOA over the matter and we hope all agencies will cooperate,” he said.
Wanjeri who was shot by police during anti-government generation Z-led peaceful demonstrations while on duty covering the protests, had to undergo surgery at a Nakuru hospital to remove the bullet from her thighs.
