Nakuru-based Non-governmental Organization MIDRIFT-HURINET has launched a ‘Youth-led Engagement for Peace and Security in Nakuru’ Program.
Chief Executive Joseph Omondi said the Program is towards ensuring challenges facing youth on matters security and peace are addressed.
“We are pleased to announce the commencement of the Youth-led Engagement for Peace and Security program, generously supported by Ziviler Friedensdienst / GIZ,” he stated.
According to the organization, this initiative will be carried out in Nakuru city with the goal of establishing a resilient and empowered society that promotes peace and social cohesion through transparent and accountable practices.
The program is designed to improve relations, trust, and accountability among youth, security personnel, and government stakeholders achieved through peaceful engagements that advocate for transparent and inclusive collaborations.
During the inception meeting, Madam Josephine Atieno, the CEC of Youth, Gender, Culture, Sports & Social Services in Nakuru County expressed gratitude to MIDRIFT HURINET for their unwavering support of the county & youth.
She noted the positive impact of the program on peace and security in the county, highlighting the successful reformation of many formerly engaged in criminal activities, who have now embraced honest livelihoods through their Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
In collaboration with the county government, MIDRIFT has contributed to the development of the Nakuru County Youth Engagement Bill (NCYES) and a pending youth policy awaiting adoption at the county assembly.
These initiatives are aimed at providing crucial support to the youth in Nakuru.
