
Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli has made an an official communication to the speaker of the National Assembly seeking Ministerial statement regarding land clashes in Angara Barrikoi in Kilgoris Constituency of Narok County.
“Honourable Speaker, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security regarding land clashes in Angata Barrikoi in Kilgoris Constituency,” he stated.
The MP revealed that on Monday, 28th April 2025, six persons namely Mr. Paul Barsaben of Kapsinendet village, Mwalimu Joseph Rono of Chelchel village, Mr. Isaiah Kipkoech of Kabusa village, Mr. Gideon Koech of Kapsinendet and Mr. Nelson Rono of Rotgaa village, all in Kilgoris Constituency lost their lives after being shot by police officers in Angata Barrikoi.
In addition, the Registrar of Lands, Kilgoris, several residents and police officers were injured and admitted to various hospitals within the area.
The MP informed the Speaker that the incident occurred during a protest that erupted over a disputed parcel of land, where the current residents are believed to be the rightful owners, having lived on it as their ancestral land.
According to the Lawmaker, the security situation in the region remains tense following the incident.
“Honourable Speaker, it is against this background that I request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security,” he said.
The Legislator is requesting a report on who authorized the police officers to use live ammunition against the citizens.
He is also requesting a statement on why land registrar and surveyors went to survey land belonging to the people of Angata without their consent.
Further the MP wants to understand why the Ministry retained officers in Lolgorian station beyond their useful period and whether they serving special interests, and what interest is this being served?
