Kihika: Njoro among towns to be elevated to Municipality

Njoro town is among towns that will be elevated to Municipality.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has assured residents of Njoro Constituency of the same.

Speaking on Friday September 19, 2025 during a consultative meeting with opinion leaders in Njoro, Governor Kihika who was was accompanied by several Nakuru MPs led by host MP Charity Kathambi, stated that with the elevation, then more goodies will come with the same.

She revealed that three towns, including Njoro, are being elevated to municipalities.

According Governor Kihika, planning and surveying are ongoing in Lare, Naishi, Kihingo, and Soweto Settlement Scheme on the same.

Kihika also used the moment to present her  half-term development report to opinion leaders and residents of Njoro Sub-County during the meeting held at St Mark’s Njoro.

The session, hosted by Area MP Hon Charity Kathambi, was marked by strong political unity and was attended by various Nakuru leaders.

Together, the leaders reviewed development strategies to fast-track project implementation for the socio-economic transformation of County.

In education, Kihika revealed that her administration disbursed Sh40.77 million in bursaries to 9,615 students, while five bright but needy students received full scholarships.

Additionally, 9,177 learners in 130 ECDE centers benefit from our Uji program.

To expand ECDE access, Kihika’s administration is constructing new classrooms equipped with age-appropriate furniture and sanitation facilities in schools such as Kimugul, Tachasis, Mwigito, and Njoro DEB.

“We continue to provide Sh30,000 yearly capitation to Vocational Training Centre (VTC) students and encourage enrollment in VTCs including Njoro, Syriat, Piave, and Lare,” she stated.

In health, construction of Njoro Level 4 Hospital, previously stalled, is now underway with Sh76 million allocated—completion is expected by year-end.

She added that her administration has operationalized Lusiru Dispensary and renovated the maternity wing at Mutarakwa Dispensary, along with upgrades at Piave and Njokerio.

In addition, Lare Health Centre now provides maternity and dental services.

Kihika assured that her administration is committed to a consistent supply of medicines and urge all residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Meanwhile, to promote trade and enterprise, the County Government has disbursed Sh8.95 million in loans from the County Enterprise Fund to 58 groups, and Sh360,000 from the County Cooperative Revolving Development Fund to Makilanjo Bee Keepers Group.

Applications for more group and Sacco loans are under review.

She urged groups to take advantage of the funds for economic empowerment.

“We also established a Sh30 million Boda Boda Fund to offer affordable loans to operators. To support agribusiness, we are constructing a Sh500 million CAIP facility in Ngongeri, Egerton for value addition and cold storage, alongside new market sheds at Njoro Mitumba and Njoro Fresh Food Markets,” stated Kihika.

In agriculture, her administration has vaccinated 10,472 animals and inseminated 2,263 cows through subsidized AI services, distributed 38,384 avocado seedlings to 3,837 farmers, 1.5 million pyrethrum seedlings to 281 farmers, 5,000 kg of seeds to 1,120 farmers, and released 16,200 fish fingerlings into Lake Naishi and fish ponds.

In water, the county’s efforts have improved access to clean water from 23.33 percent to 53.5 percent in Njoro.

“We drilled 17 boreholes, equipped and solarized 22, piped 69.8 km of water lines, and installed eight water tanks now serving 45,600 residents. We also rehabilitated Davishon Dam and water springs in Kanyirir and Kitoben,” she said.

Infrastructure is not left behind, as the county has graded 284 km of roads, graveled 87.6 km, built four bridges, installed 23 streetlights, and constructed four boda boda sheds.

She expressed satisfaction that Roads like Lare-Naishi and Lusiru-Kamande-Wa Mundia are now more accessible.

According to Kihika, post-rainy season, more roads will be opened and upgraded.

To empower youths and support sports, the County distributed equipment worth Sh96 million, including PA systems, tools, posho mills, beauty products, tents, and chairs. We will launch the Governor’s Cup, a countywide multi-sport tournament, at the end of this month.

Kihika also lauded support from the National Government.

She revealed that the National Government under  President William Ruto, is set to construct a 340-bed hostel at Njoro TTI, and an affordable housing project is planned in Ngongeri, Egerton.

Meanwhile, the dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway begins next month.

The meeting was attended by MPs David Gikaria, Liza Chelule, Joseph Tonui, and Paul Chebor; MCAs Hezy Ndung’u, Cyrus Dida, and Samuel Tonui as well as County officials.
