Nakuru County is among the many counties participating in the Eleventh Edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games.
The games were officially launched on Tuesday November 26, 2024 at the Mumias Sports Complex Stadium by Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa.
The event brings together representatives from over 35 counties, showcasing diverse sports disciplines, including football, volleyball, handball, athletics, tug of war, darts, pool, badminton, choir, chess, scrabble and drafts, among others.
In his remarks, Governor Barasa warmly welcomed participants to Kakamega County, describing it as a “green jewel” known for its cultural heritage and unique traditional meals such as white ants (Tsiswa), Omukombero and Misheveve.
He used the opportunity to call on the National Government to ensure timely disbursement of funds to counties through the Controller of Budget to support such initiatives.
The Governor of West Pokot and Chair of the Sports, Culture, Youth, Gender and Social Services Committee, Simon Kachapin, emphasized the importance of fostering national cohesion and peaceful coexistence among counties.
He highlighted how sports can drive growth and resilience across the nation.
Nakuru County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Josephine Atieno, commended the KICOSCA team for their excellent organization and wished participants success throughout the competition.
The CECM echoed sentiments of the Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika on the importance of the Counties games that brings together staffs to experience, bond and learn about devolution.
The event was graced by Governors, County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), Chief Officers, Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), and other county officials.
