They say resilience pays and this is the script for one Doreen Tiema who is now a graduate from Moi University Eldoret.
Speaking on Sunday December 22, 2024 during a Thanksgiving ceremony held at Manyani estate in Kivumbini Ward, Nakuru East Sub county, Doreen’s Mother Mrs Tiema revealed that the journey of her daughter has not been easy.
She narrated how Doreen joined school at three years at YMCA nursery Nakuru.
However, at some point she was almost rejected at Primary school due to the fact that the nursery she schooled could not match the Primary she was to enroll at.
The young Doreen would later join Menengai Primary and emerged with 400 marks, that saw her join Nakuru Girls where she got an A minus( A-).
She later joined Moi University Eldoret where she did her studies emerging with first class honors degree in Computer Science.
Mrs Tiema attributes the success to the high levels of discipline that her daughter exhibited.
“My daughter has been very disciplined in every aspect of life,” she stated.
She lauded the community, friends and neighbors for the support.
The dad Mr. David Tiema admitting that the journey has not been easy.
Tiema was however quick to point out that her daughter’s hard work is what motivated him as a parent.
“It has not been a walk in the park. But her had working is what motivated us to ensure she joins the school of her choice,” stated Tiema.
Tiema who could not hide his joy also lauded area MCA Neto Sakwa for intervening when things were tough in terms of finances.
“Through education, we can transform the whole of Manyani estate,” he stated.
Mary Owino- a former teacher of Doreen, reiterated that discipline even in higher institutions of learning is key towards success.
She urged parents to ensure they take responsibility in matters parenting following up on the characters of their children.
Ms Owino challenged young people to take education seriously, and avert engaging in criminal activities and drugs and substance abuse.
MCA Sakwa on his part recalled how he has walked with Doreen’s family throughout.
“I’m privileged that I have been part of this family since when the daughter did class 8, Form 4 and now we are here for the graduation Thanksgiving,” stated Sakwa.
While noting the current situation and the harsh economic times, MCA Sakwa reiterated that here is need for quality education for all.
While congratulating Doreen, Sakwa was categorical that she will be a great role model not only to her family but to the entire society.
Sakwa urged parents to work closely with his office and ensure that they apply for bursary every financial year adding that he will strive to ensure transparency in the bursary process.
Sentiments echoed by Martin Lunalo and Patrick Tsimango who accompanied MCA Sakwa.
The duo pointed out the need to support learners in their education journey.
