Joy as Team Rani Ramchandani, friends host early Christmas for the elderly at Nakuru Alms House

A Swahili saying goes ‘Mgeni njoo, mwenyeji apone’ which can be translated that a visitor beings savings.

This was the scenario at Nakuru Alms House for the elderly on Saturday November 30, 2024 as Team Rani Ramchandani Foundation and friends joined hands to organize a meal for the elderly.

The elderly persons at the facility had a time to interact with members of Team Rani Ramchandani, Rotaracts, members of the Nakuru Players Theatre and Nakuru East Senior Deputy County Commissioner Simiyu Werre.

The team prepared a meal at the facility and served the elderly after short ceremony of cake cutting signifying an early Christmas for the elderly persons who could not hide their joy.

Later, the team also planted trees at the facility as a way of helping green the environment.

Speaking during the event, Nakuru East Senior Deputy County Commissioner Simiyu Werre lauded Team Rani Ramchandani Foundation and friends for the gesture.

He noted that elderly persons are key component of the society and should be respected by ensuring condusive environment for their wellbeing.

The DCC called on the society to embrace the elderly so that they can be every part and parcel of the society.

“We are very grateful for Team Rani and other organizations that saw it paramount to visit and celebrate early Christmas with the elderly. This is the way to go in ensuring the elderly are well taken care of and we all have a collective responsibility to ensure the same,” he stated.

The DCC also called on members of the public to embrace the spirit of sharing with the needy especially during this festive season.

Sentiments echoed by Rani Ramchandani who is the founder Rani Ramchandani Foundation.

She pointed out that together with friends, they will continue to reach out to the vulnerable members of the society.

“The only way we can ensure better society is by showing love to all. No one should be left out,” stated Rani.

It should be noted that the Nakuru Alms House in Kivumbini Ward has a total of 13 elderly persons.

The facility serves as their care home where they are taken care of under the County government of Nakuru’s Social Department.

Initially the facility used to be under the defunct Municipal Council before the inception of Devolution.
