Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Tuesday November 26 officially opened National Police Service County Commanders’ Strategic Leadership Course 01/2024 at the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) – Ngong.
The one month strategic course comprising of officers drawn from the NPS is one of a kind meant to equip the commanders with experiential and collaborative learning to enable the officers acquire practical ideas in dealing with policing matters in the country.
The staging of this course comes at a time when the NPS is taking deliberate effort to strengthen command and leadership competencies in the Service.
The IG together with his two Deputy Inspectors General and Director DCI assured the commanders of the Service support in navigating on the challenges that come with modern policing, including cybercrime, femicide and terrorism.
The IG expressed optimism that after successful completion of the course the officers will return to their respective commands, better equipped, more focused and ready to help in moving the Service to the next level in terms of service delivery.
He further affirmed that the Service will continuously embrace community policing and multiagency approach to enhance policing in the country. He called upon Commanders at every level to rejuvenate community policing approaches as leadership is a privilege to better the lives of all people.
He also assured that the Service will collaboratively engage with other stakeholders to support mental wellness among police officers across the country.
