How Rotary Club Prague International, partners have continued to transform Mureranjau school in Nyandarua County

Learners at Mureranjau Primary School in Kipipiri Constituency of Nyandarua County, Kenya have a reason to smile after members of Rotary Club of Prague International  made a second visit with donation of  furniture on Wednesday April 2, 2025.
Gerry Tipple from the Rotary Club of Prague was categorical this donation was from a generous donor.

This has enabled the Club to provide new furniture for the school at a cost of over Kshs 1 million.
The furniture included Tables, Desks as well as lockable desks.
“Thanks to another generous donor, we have now been able to provide new furniture for the school at a cost of just over 1,000,000 Kenyan shillings,” he stated.

This is the second time the Rotary Club of Prague in partnership with Rotary Club of Nakuru has been working closely to support the school that is found in the rural areas of Kipipiri Constituency.

Members of the two clubs have been working closely on the  key projects in Mureranjau community.
The Projects include water and furniture projects as well as lifting the education standards of the area through sponsorship of needy learners.

The support to the community was made possible after one of Rotarians in Prague, Veronicah Kinyanjui who was born in Mureranjau made a request sharing about the need of her  community back in Kenya.

This would later inform the visit in 2022 by Members of Rotary Club of Prague to the village of Mureranjau.
The 2022 visit saw the members donate books and other supplies to the school.
However, despite the donation of books and other supplies, the Rotarians were shocked by the poor condition of the school in terms of infrastructure and desks which were in poor condition.
In addition, the Rotarians during the 2022 visit observed that some of the latrines were condemned and there were very few usable ones for more than 300 students and 10 staff with no hand-washing facilities either.
On matters education, it was noticed that even the most able students were unable to transit to good high schools due to poor backgrounds with parents unable to pay fee.
This informed the decision by the Rotarians and well wishers to step in to sponsor the most able children to Highschool.
According to Rotarian Tipple, already the projects has seen tremendous strides with 9 students now undergoing further education.
Members’ donation has also seen uniforms and shoes purchased for all needy students in the school.
“We began first to sponsor the most able children to high school and now have 9 students undergoing further education. Through our members’ donations we have also purchased uniforms and shoes for all the students who needed them,” he stated.
Besides the collaboration between The Rotary Club of Prague International and the Rotary Club of Nakuru in these projects, another Club has now come on board.
The Rotary Club of Maasai Mara is now joining as a partner in Kenya, besides the strong support of Mr. Isaac Kung’u the area Member of the County Assembly.
According to the MCA, such projects should be supported as they help improve the livelihoods of the area.
“We are very grateful to the guests from Rotary Club of Prague International, Rotary Club of Nakuru and the Rotary Club of Maasai Mara for the gesture. As elected leaders we shall continue to support such so that we can eradicate poverty in our community,” he stated.

To address the water challenge in Mureranjau, the Rotarians from both Clubs are currently preparing a project that will see a borehole drilled.
Here, locals will also earn a living as they will be engaged to do the pipe trenches.
The borehole that will be fully equipped will see water supplied to all the homesteads in the area.
Another project that is in pipeline is the construction of new latrines and wash stations in Mureranjau school.
According to Tipple, the project will be in partnership with the County Government of Nyandarua.
“We expect this to be implemented in partnership with Nyandarua County Government during the second half of this year,” he stated.
It should be noted that the Projects are driven by The Rotarians’ Four-Way Test:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
