Family in distress as 7 months old baby’s body goes missing at Nakuru PGH mortuary

A family from Kiratina, Menengai East Ward of Nakuru East Sub county is crying for justice over missing body of their baby at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital Mortuary.

Mr Daniel Kipchirchir and Ms Sharon Saidy are said to have had their 7 months old baby admitted at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital last weekend but unfortunately passed on and the body was taken to Mortuary at the facility.
Documents seen by famous Nakuru.co.ke indicate that indeed the body was received at the Facility’s mortuary.
However, on coming to the facility on Thursday February 6 to receive their body, they were told that the body is no where to be traced.
The news surprised the couple who are deaf and dumb.
The news of the disappearance of their baby’s body has elicited mixed reactions on Nakuru Whatsapp group with political leaders led by Menengai East Ward MCA Wilson Mwangi Wajeff and activists led by Simon Nasieku demanding justice for the family that is now in distress.
Addressing journalists at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, the leaders called out Nakuru Level 5 Hospital management and the Nakuru County CECM for health to take responsibility and ensure the body of the baby is found.
MCA Wajeff stated that this is the only way to ensure justice for the family.
“We are calling out the Medical Superintendent of this facility and the in charge of the mortuary to take responsibility,” he stated.
The MCA noted that there have been several complaints concerning Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, a matter that the county Assembly of Nakuru will re-look into.
He added that as the Assembly resumes next week from recess, the matter around service delivery at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital shall be addressed through the County Assembly Health Committee.
“As assembly we have received several complaints from members of the public concerning this facility. When we resume next week, we shall as MCAs look into the matter,” he stated.
Nakuru activist Simon Ole Nasieku on his part issued 24 hours ultimatum for the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital management to produce the body of the family.
According to him, failure to which they will move to court to demand the same.
“We want the family to have peace and this can only happen if the family will have the body,” he stated.
Nakuru Level 5 Hospital Superintendent James Waweru in address to press stated that there was a mix up in bodies at the facility morgue.
He was however quick to point out that the matter is under investigation and all those who were on duty will record statement.
