The Government has affirmed commitment towards ensuring every village and household is connected to affordable electricity.
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi says electricity connectivity is no longer a luxury and for a few but a right for every Kenyan.
He was speaking in Kabatini Ward of Bahati Constituency in Nakuru County during the launch of last mile connectivity program
The CS also flagged off power posts meant for power connectivity in various areas of Bahati Constituency.
Wendo Vocational Training Centre and neighborhood as well as Kwa Amos centre in Kabatini Ward are a beneficiary of the Program.
The CS termed the launch as a milestone for the area has had no power for many years.
“This area has had no power for many years and that is why we are here together with MP Njoki to ensure that there is connectivity. Electricity is no longer a luxury for few, but it is a right for everyone a move towards transformation in terms of economic boost through businesses,” he stated.
CS Wandayi was categorical that the young people will be able to start small and medium enterprises due to power connectivity.
He commended the area MP for the good working relationship.
The CS revealed that Nakuru county has had allocation of 2.5 billion from National Government towards electricity connectivity in the last financial year.
He added that it is the agenda of President William Ruto and assured Bahati residents that there shall be witnessed more transformation in terms of connectivity of power in the area.
“The government allocated 2.5billion shillings towards connectivity in Nakuru in the last financial year, a clear indicator that the President is committed towards connectivity,” he stated.
He added that he shall work together with MP Njoki to ensure areas with no electricity are addressed.
He assured that the government is committed towards ensuring full connectivity in all villages and household come 2030.
He at the same called on Kenyans to ensure unity and peace towards development.
“When leaders are united, and Kenyans united we can realize development,” he said.
On matters politics, the CS stated that the development agenda is what will determine moving forward.
Area MP Irene Njoki lauded the CS and the National Government for the support.
She assured that all transformers will be worked on to ensure that the Constituency is fully connected to power.
MP Njoki called on the Lawmaker called on the youth to ensure they enroll at the Wendo Vocational Training Centre.
“I urge young people to come and get bursary then enroll in the Vocational Training Centres such as Wendo which are now fully operational with power,” she stated.
MP Njoki lauded the national government for the support through power connectivity.
She added that Bahati Constituency is now at 60 percent power connectivity.
According to the Lawmaker, additional street lights for Bahati and Dundori Wards, adding that it will be historical.
MP Njoki used the moment to highlight some of the projects initiated both under NG-CDF and those additional that she lobbied from National Government.
Nakuru County Deputy Governor David Kones who was in attendance reiterated the need for development agenda to be supported.
Area DCC David Juma who spoke during the event reiterated the same adding that such development should be welcomed.
“The last mile connectivity program is key in transformation of this area and even boost security,” he stated.
Area MCA Leah Wambui Ng’ang’a on her said she has been in the forefront in urging youth to enroll for technical courses.
With the last mile connectivity, she noted that it will help them venture into businesses that rely on power.
“The Wendo Vocational Training Centre is key and it’s connection to power has really helped,” she said.
The MCA called on area MP to look into Kiugoine Police Station area needs to be connected too as it has affected the area.
She added that the issues of title deeds for Kabatini Centre in Kabatini Ward will be looked into.
“We should keep off politics and focus on development at the moment,” she said.
