Court issues orders stopping County Government Workers’ Union ‘scam elections’ in Nakuru

The High Court in Machakos stopped county government staff union elections that were to take place in Nakuru on Monday February 16, 2026.

The move was occassioned by a section of Union members who went to seek orders to stop the elctions citing lack of democracy in the process, dictatorship from the immediate Secretary General.

Speaking in Nakuru after the Court granted the orders, the members drawn from various counties lauded the courts for ensuring democracy.

Led by aspirant for Secretary General position Ms Veska Kangogo, they also lauded the delegates who opposed the elections as planned by a faction whom they termed as individuals who do not believe in democracy.

Ms Kangogo was categorical that the immediate SG has failed to ensure elections of the Unions and whatever was called in Nakuru was a scam as many who had been mobilized to vote as early as 3am were not certified delegates, as genuine delegates had been locked out.

She noted that the constitution of the Union is very clear on who is eligible to vote, terming the court’s Conservatory orders issued under certificate of urgency as a win for the members and delegates who believe in democracy.

According to her, the immediate SG had planned a scam election with delegates who had been elected previously not having received their certificates to date.

She demanded that the money used to plan for a scam elections be refunded to the delegates.

“We have an efficient Judiciary who heard our case and granted the conservatory orders. We also want to laud our security team in Nakuru who acted swiftly to ensure the Court order is executed despite forces from those who do not believe in democracy,” she said.

Ms Kangogo called on courts to give room until the Lenten and Ramadhan period for Christians and Muslims respectively are over.

Joseph Okole who is Chairman County Governments Workers Union Busia County was categorical that the courts should ensure free and fair elections.

He faulted the immediate SG for trying to use shortcuts in elections.
