Members of Luhya Community in Nakuru are now demanding the position of Deputy Governor Nakuru County come 2027.
Addressing press in Nakuru on Thursday February 12, 2026 the members argued that their numbers are enought to make them second in comand in the County Government of Nakuru.
In a statement read by Mr. Javan Chiteri, the community while lauding the current County Government for the slots given in cabinet, was categorical that come 2027 they must be on the negotiation table.
According to them, any gubernatorial candidate who will not honor that should forget about votes of the Mulembe Nation in Nakuru County.
The members also made a clarion call to all political divide to avert sentiments and utterances that might plunge the country into political turmoil as experienced in 2007.
They also called on members of Mulembe Nation in Nakuru county to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration and register in huge numbers so that they can make their voice count in Nakuru come 2027.
“As a Community we have numbers and we are demanding the position of Deputy Governor Nakuru 2027. We purpose to be on the table and not merely on the menu,” read part of the statement.
The Community further endorsed Olkaria Ward MCA Peter Palang’a as the Political Mouth piece for the Mulembe Nation in Nakuru.
They slammed those who have been masquerading as Luhya Community Spokespersons in Nakuru County.
According to them, they will only rally behind Hon. Palang’a as their spokesperson and the direction he shall give is what the community shall follow to the latter.
“We have endorsed Hon Palang’a as the Community’s political spokesperson and we shall behind his direction moving forward,” the community states.
Speaking on the recent development in ODM where Senator Edwin Sifuna was ousted as Secretary General, members of the community stated that it was so unfortunate that such a decision was reached.
Nakuru County Bunge La Mwananchi President Robert Makokha who is also aspirant for Nakuru Town West MP seat was categorical that members of the Luhya community has in the past supported the late Raila Odinga.
Makokha called on ODM party to rethink about the decision and reinstate Sifuna as SG.
“We hereby demand that ODM party with immediate effect reinstate Sifuna as SG,” he stated.
According to Makokha, the community shall also be following keenly the legal battle that embattled ODM SG Sifuna has initiated.
He added that should the verdict not favour Sifuna, then they will mobilize the members of the community who are members of ODM to ensure mass exit from the party that was founded by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Sentiments echoed by Nakuru Luhya Opinion leader Watani Omumanani.
According to Watani, the Luhya Community in Kenya has never been voting for ODM, but for Raila Odinga adding that now that Raila is not there things cannot be same.
“Luhya community in this country has never voted for ODM, we were only voting for Raila. Now that Raila is not there, they should not expect things to be same. It is long overdue. We shall not seat back and watch as they eat. If the issue of Sifuna is not addressed then we shall move out of ODM abd have our own vehicle moving foeward” he said.
Shizo Mkenya representing the Luhya youth in Nakuru, was categorical that the current County government has tried but there is more to be done to ensure luhya community is part and parcel.
While noting that Luhya numbers in Nakuru as voters are valid, he urged for more job opportunities.
Sentiments echoed by Ms Conbella Were who called on members of the communiry who are yet to register as voters to come out and eegister so that numbers can count.
She reiterated the unity of members of Mulembe Nation in Nakuru and refuted claims of factions and divisions.
Kaptembwa Ward MCA aspirant Francis Malichi on his part pointed out that every governor has been taking Luhya Communted for grunted.
“Anybody who wants to go for governor should without having a Luhya as runningmate, let them forget about it,” stated Malichi.
Nakuru County Luhya Political Spokesperson MCA Peter Palang’a was categorical gone are the days that the community sat back as others enjoyed political rewards.
According to Palang’a, the Community shall ensure its on the negotiation table.
He at the same time called on the community to register as voters ahead of the 2027 polls, adding that more meetings will be held towards 2027.
“For those thinking Luhya community is divided you are wrong..Its just the beginning,” stated Palang’a.
