Nakuru County is seeking the certification of Afraha Stadium by the World Athletics.
This even as the Stadium over the weekend hosted the 4th Betika Track and Field Weekend meet.
The county revealed that a formal request will be made to Athletic Kenya to secure certification of the stadium.
The stadium now meets all the necessary criteria for hosting international track games.

According to Deputy Governor David Kones, this certification would pave the way for Nakuru to host prestigious national and international athletic competitions, further boosting its sporting profile.
He was speaking on Saturday when he graced the final day of the two-day Betika Track and Field Weekend Meet that was also graced by Athletic Kenya President Jackson Tuwei, representatives from title sponsors BETIKA, and a host of renowned Kenyan athletes.
Kones highlighted that the redevelopment of Afraha Stadium is a key component of a larger vision by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
“This broader initiative focuses on upgrading various sports facilities throughout the county in collaboration with the National government,” he stated.
According to him, this strategic investment in sports infrastructure aims to not only provide better training and competition venues for local talent but also to actively promote sports tourism within Nakuru County and opening the county for economic growth for the benefit of the residents.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by County Executive for Sports Josephine Achieng, Chief Officers Josphat Kimemia (Sports), Gladys Kamuren (Gender), Michael Cheruiyot (Livestock), Martin Kagai (Governor’s office) Nakuru City Manager Gitau Thabanja among other County officials.
