
The County Government of Nakuru has reiterated commitment towards boosting the agriculture sector.

Under Governor Susan Kihika’s administration, Agriculture is rated as the backbone of the economy of Nakuru.
Nakuru being among the food baskets for the country, farmers initially suffered walking long distances to get fertilizer.
“We have suffered for many years to reach outlets where we can buy fertilizer and this has been impacting negatively on our farms,” they stated.

However, led by Elizabeth Nduta from Waseges, George Macharia Kingori from kabazi, Joseph Bunei from Mauche, and Magdalene Mutahi from Kabazi the farmers have a sigh of relief after Governor Susan Kihika started an initiative to build fertilizer stores closer to the farmers.
“We are very grateful to our Governor that we can now get the fertilizer on time through the stores,” they stated.

This even as Governor Kihika’s manifesto and the County Integrated Development Plan on agriculture sector focuses on food security through improved production.
“In our great county of Nakuru, the Agriculture subsector is the largest contributor to gross county product.My administration will ensure enhanced access to farm inputs including fertilizer,” stated Governor Kihika.
The purchase of farm inputs such as fertilizer and proper use of same has continued to improve production.
Meanwhile, the county initiative on construction of fertilizer stores has also created job opportunities for a number of youth who help carrying and packing.
This, even as calls for maximizing on the new technology in agriculture.
It should be noted that already the county has sponsored the establishment of 17 fertilizer store outlets across the county.
This has easen the work of farmers as they can easily access the fertilizer.
According to County CECM for Agriculture Leonard Bor, 4 cooperative society have benefited from subsidized fertilizer.
These are Waseges Agribusiness Cooperative Society (Subukia Subcounty), Tulwopmoi Cooperative (Rongai Subcounty), Mauka Cooperative (Njoro Subcounty), and
Kamasis Cooperative (Kuresoi North Subcounty).
Chief officer Newton Mwaura on his part reveals that more than 10,000 of 50Kgs have been purchased by farmers.
He urged farmers to join cooperatives for easy operations.
