The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops is now calling for unity and political tolerance in the country.
This was the call as The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), in collaboration with the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), led the national annual prayer day at the Marian Shrine, Subukia on Saturday October 5, 2024.
In his homily, Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba, who is also the Chairman of KCCB, emphasized the importance of unity adding that it attracts God’s favor.
He urged political leaders in Kenya to bring the citizens together instead of dividing them with unfounded policies.
“We urge our political class to be tolerant and ensure they unite Kenyans rather than dividing them with utterances that do not add value,” stated Muhatia.
The Catholic Bishops’ call coming at a time when the MPs are pushing a motion to have Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua impeached over what the pro motion term is violation of constitution by DP.
The motion was on Friday and Saturday subjected to public participation.
This year’s prayer Mass, presided over by the Metropolitan of Mombasa, was a grand event attended by thousands of Christians from dioceses across the country, as well as pilgrims from a neighboring country, Uganda.
The Mass, celebrated by Bishop Charles Kasonde of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi, Zambia, in collaboration with other bishops from KCCB, also marked the official launch of the 50th anniversary of the Small Christian Communities.
