Youths urged to embrace technology as county launches innovation hubs

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has called on youths to embrace technology and use various opportunities on the internet to earn a living.

Speaking in Subukia sub county on Thursday when he officially launched the Subukia Innovation Hub,the governor said his government is committed towards empowering youths.

“I urge the youths to make good use of the internet and avoid abuses.The internet can help you earn a living.As a government we are committed in ensuring youths empowerment” he said.

Sentiment echoed by Nakuru County CEC for Education and ICT Mr.Raymond Komen who said every department within Nakuru county is working to incorporate youths.

This is the second hub to be launched in the County after a similar hub was opened in Kuresoi South.According to Mr.Komen,the youths have numerous opportunities as as most businesses are currently being conducted online.

He says similar Hubs will be opened in Naivasha and Nakuru East sub counties respectively soon.

“The youths of Nakuru county have no reason to complain as the county is incorporating them in all departments.We look forward to open similar hubs in Naivasha and Bondeni in Nakuru East”said Komen.

Gladys Muthoni Kamau and Francis Kibe are instructors at the Subukia Innovation hub and they categorically state that the hub is paramount in shaping the lives of young people who are interested I internet and technology.

According to them,already 83 youth have been trained at the Subukia Innovation Hub with some opening up technology businesses at their grassroot level.

“We have around 83 youths who have been trained here and some have already opened up businesses”they said.

Some of the youths who have received training from the Subukia Innovation Hub are optimistic that they will impact positively in the society.

Led by Abedne Wairimu and Anita Kaheia,they appealed to their fellow youths in Nakuru county to make grab the opportunities being provided by the county government in order to empower themselves economically.

“We are very grateful for the support from county government.We call on our fellow youths to ensure they come and join this hubs for the trainings” they said.

It should be noted that the Innovation Hubs are involved in activities aimed at ensuring ICT access in areas of youths,farmers,Entrepreneurs,job seekers and researchers.

The county government is facilitating the internet as well as finances for the one month youths training at the hubs.
