Young people in Nakuru and Kenya as a whole have been urged to actively participate in electoral process.
The call was made by MIDRIFT HURINET Executive Director Mr Joseph Omondi.
Speaking during the launch of voter registration campaign for Nakuru West and Nakuru East, Mr. Omondi was categorical that young people have a great potential in the country.
He was quick to point out that their voices can only be heard if they take active role in matters electoral process.
The MIDRIFT HURINET Executive Director called in youth to register in large numbers si that their voice can be heard come 2027.
“Young people make the larger portion of our population and they have to take advantage of that and register in large numbers so that their voices can be heard,” he said.
It should be noted that the County Government of Nakuru in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations, MIDRIFT HURINET and Tribeless Youth, have initiated a grassroots-level campaign, partnering with local bodaboda riders to accelerate voter registration, following concerningly low registration figures.
Statistics indicate that as of September, the County recorded only 3,600 new registered voters since the launch of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, lagging significantly behind other regions.

On Friday November 14, the CECM for Public Service Management, Ambrose Ngare representing Governor Susan Kihika, flagged off the riders from Nakuru East and Nakuru West Subcounties to mobilize residents especially the youth who have not yet registered as voters.
These riders will be the link to the community, tasked with mobilizing residents particularly the youth to register as voters, transfer their details, correct, or update their existing information during the ongoing enhanced voter registration exercise
While addressing the riders, CECM Ngare noted that obtaining a voter’s card empowers citizens to shape sustainable leadership.
He emphasized that voting allows leaders to implement their vision and complete development projects without constant interruption, thus promoting long-term growth as envisioned in the Constitution.
The event was also attended by the Deputy County Secretary, Mr. Newton Mwaura, who reminded riders of Governor Susan Kihika’s Ksh 30 million Bodaboda Empowerment Fund, which will soon make it easier for bodaboda operators to acquire electric motorcycles at very affordable rates.
He encouraged them to take full advantage of this transformative initiative.
