‘Youth President’ Kennedy Lang’at’s petition that might save young people in Kenya if implemented

The Ministry of Interior has been urged to use a youth-centred approach in addressing crime.

In a petition submitted to Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Nakuru West Opinion Leader Kennedy Lang’at said youth are key component in matters security.

According to him, they should be incorporated in matters security through the Nyumba Kumi structures.

Always referred to himself as Youth President, Lang’at made a bold move on Wednesday and handed CS Murkomen the detailed petition touching on various aspects of young people.

The petition was handed to the Cabinet Secretary during launch of national ID registration drive at Shabaab Grounds in Nakuru West.

In the petition seen by famousnakuru.co.ke, Lang’at has articulated the challenges facing the youth in Nakuru and nation as a whole.

According to him, the government through the Ministry if Interior and National administration should work closely with young people in finding solutions.

Issues of inclusion of young people in government programs also among the issues raised by Lang’at in the petition.

The passionate young leader believes his petition will go a long way in transforming the lives of millions.

He further highlighted unemployment as major challenge facing youth in the country and called for action to address the same.

Lang’at maintains that there is need for government to expand technical training opportunities and establish funding mechanisms for youth-led businesses.

“There is need for government-backed internship and apprenticeship programs that will equip young people with practical skills and help bridge the gap between education and employment. Without these interventions, I’m afraid our youth will remain vulnerable to social ills such as crime, drug abuse, and political manipulation,” he stated.

The youth leader added that all policies on youth should not be formulated in boardrooms by elderly leaders who have little understanding of the struggles faced by the youth.

His petition further proposes the lowering of age requirements for key leadership positions, the creation of more seats for young leaders in both county and national governments, and the establishment of a national youth council with real decision-making power.
