Uhuru finally takes full control of Senate

President Uhuru Kenyatta continued to tighten his grip on the Senate leadership after the jubilee party made changes to house committees.

In the changes supporters of Deputy President William Ruto were removed from powerful house committees and replaced by supporters of President Kenyatta.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was removed as the chairman of the powerful Senate Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC).

Laikipia Senator John Kinyua was kicked out as the chairman of the also powerful Senate devolution committee. Kinyua was also kicked out of the ICT committee.

Bomet Christopher Lang’at was kicked out as chair of the Education Committee and also removed from the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi also suffered the fate after he was kicked out as the vice chair of JLAC and also ousted from the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC).

The targeted Senators were among those who opposed the Jubilee party sponsored motion that led to the ouster of Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki as the Senate Deputy Speaker.

The changes were announced by the Senate Majority whip Senator Irungu Kang’ata.

The changes now mean that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies are in full control of all powerful committees within the Senate.

Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka is expected to communicate and effect the new changes in the next Senate sitting.
