Nyandarua County will now benefit from Equalization Fund from National Government fopr marginalized Counties.
This follows the interventions of Senator John Methu who pushed to ensure Nyandarua County is among the marginalized Counties.
It should be noted that Nyandarua County Assembly approved a County budget of Kshs. 9.43 billion exceeding the last financial year’s budget by Ksh 940 million.
The development expenditure will be 38.11% while recurrent expenditure will be 61.89% of the total budget.
Further, the projection for own source revenue is Kshs. 675 million, while Kshs. 6.662 billion is expected to come from the National Government as the equitable share.
Kshs. 1.789 billion is expected to come from the National Government and development partners conditional grants, while Kshs. 300 million will be from facility improvement financing programme.

While tabling the Report on the Nyandarua County Budget Estimates for 2025-2026 financial year, the Chairperson Budget and Appropriations Committee, Hon. Isaac Kung’u informed the house that the County Senator, Hon. John Methu championed for Nyandarua to be categorized as a marginalized County.
He said this would enable it to benefit from equalization fund, which will be critical in addressing historical challenges for effective and efficient delivery of basic services and be at par with the rest of the nation.
Kung’u noted that Nyandarua will receive approximately Kshs. 371 million from the fund.
“Nyandarua is among the counties newly classified as marginalized courtesy of our true son of the soil, Senator John Methu. This county lacks basic amenities like water, roads, electricity connectivity and health facilities among others,” he reported.
The MCAs expressed hope that implementation of the budget will be expedited, and pending bills will be cleared.
The Committee implored on the County leadership to embrace efficiency and accountability in the implementation, and called for synergy among the County Executive, County Assembly, development partners and critical stakeholders.
“Looking ahead, this budget offers not just a spending plan, but a blueprint for delivering measurable results that improve the lives of our people. Let us remain committed to translating these estimates into real outcomes through transparency, diligence, and collective action,” the chairperson concluded.
