Water issue at Kamukunji Grounds’ Toilets to be addressed, CS Njeru directs

Water Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru has directed that the issue of water shortage at the Kamukunji Grounds’ Toilets in Nakuru East be addressed once and for all.

Speaking at the ground on Saturday April 13 during Eid Mubarak Cup that he (CS Njeru) sponsored, the CS said it was shameful that the ground was operating without water in the toilets.

He added that as Cabinet Secretary for Water, he will ensure water services at the facility that has great history when it comes to matters sports and talents.

“It cannot be that I am the CS for water yet this toilets here have no water. This must be addressed soon,” he said.

It should be noted that Kamukunji grounds holds the history of football in Nakuru such that when the history of sports in Nakuru is written, Kamukunji grounds cannot be left out.

The ground is situated next to Lumumba estate in Bondeni and prides in nurturing talents.

Here, a number of football talents both local and national level started their career in football.

Among locals, the ground is commonly referred to as ‘Kamuu’- the short form for Kamukunji.

Some of the talents that have passed through the ground in their talent journey include among others John Muiruri alias John “Mo” a former Harambee Stars international, Hillary “Fordy” Echesa , Noah Ayuko- a veteran goalkeeper, David “Calabar” Owino, Evans “Jado” Omondi-a veteran goalkeeper, Sammy Okoth, Ramadhan Baraza- a retired footballer, and Michael “Mike” Baraza Nyongesa.

The ground is also famous for the Inter-estates that always serve as a unifying factor for the locals and football fanatics.
