Water companies in Nakuru County have been challenged to supply water to county residents free of charge as a way of contributing to the fight against the spread of coronavirus.
Elburgon Ward Member of county assembly Njuguna Mwaura said that most Nakuru residents do not have access to the vital product which he termed as vital in the war against COVID-19.
He said that as a corporate social responsibility gesture,, all water companies should ensure that all their clients have an uninterrupted supply of water while the rest of the residents should be supplied with water freely.
Njuguna noted that it will be senseless to ask residents to wash their hands and maintain high standards of hygiene without enough supply of water.
At the same time, he said that in partnership with the county government the water companies should supply water to residents within informal settlements using every possible means.
He also called upon the Kenya power company to waiver all electricity bills owed to it by water companies to enable them to continue supplying water to residents.
The MCA also wants electricity to boreholes owned and run by communities to be restored in areas where it had been disconnected to allow residents access to water from the boreholes
