The Nakuru War Memorial Hospital’s Matron has shared insights on how a body was stolen from the facility’s Mortuary.
Through a phone interview, Musale reveals that the body is of a middle aged woman.
The woman is said to have died September last year(2023) while undergoing treatment at the facility.
The body was taken to the mortuary bit then a family dispute arose ending up in court.
According to Musale, a ruling a was made this year February 15, that gave the children of the deceased a go ahead to burry their mother.
“As a facility, we agreed that once they are ready to settle the bill they can come and have the body,” stated Musale.
Later on Musale reveals that the family called her that they were receiving pressure from the county government to remove the body from the mortuary since the facility was suspending operations.
But she says, she told the family members to ignore such calls as the facility was operational and that the county had nothing to do with the mortuary nor access to the same.
On February 20, 2024 Musale says she received a call at night informing her that a hearse had been spotted at the facility.
Later on February 22, Umash Funeral Home called her informing that a body had been received but the family had no documents.
She adds that when Umash tried to interrogate the family, they behaved as if they were hiding something.
It is at this point that Umash called Musale who reported the matter at Kaptembwa Police station as War Memorial Hospital is under the same jurisdiction.
“I reported the matter to the police who accompanied me to Umash and I confirmed that indeed the body is there. Police have launched investigations to know what transpired and how the mortuary was broken into,” she said.
Musale says she is the only person in possession of the mortuary keys hence it should be investigated how the facility was broken into.
